Shop Mechanic
Job Description
Duties/Responsibilities
Education and Experience:
- Inspect lift trucks and equipment to determine the extent of repairs.
- Performs repairs on gasoline, diesel, and propane engines with minimal instruction.
- Inspects, adjusts, and repairs components as needed.
- Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.
- Performs preventative maintenance to improve the condition and performance of the fleet.
- Operates equipment to troubleshoot and test equipment.
- Assists the parts department in shipping and receiving of motor freight.
- Takes service calls and assists when the Service Manager is unavailable.
- Cleans and maintains the garage area as needed.
- Other related duties as required.
- This job requires stooping, bending, climbing, and the capability of lifting 50 pounds.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material.
Education and Experience:
- Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
- Three years of on-the-job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics. Schooling in these fields could substitute for some of the job experience.
- It is required to pass the tacker test. The FSM is encouraged to practice and improve welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test to be considered for future promotions.
