Backhoe (Equipment Operator) 

$25/hr. but DOE  

working 6:30-3 Mon-Fri

Salary Class/Range:        Hourly Non-Exempt / $44,160 – $62,400




Pre-Employment Requirements: All candidates must pass a pre-employment drug / alcohol screen as a condition for employment. Failure to do so will result in the candidate being disqualified from further consideration. The candidate must also possess a current, valid driver’s license and be insurable through Companies insurance carrier. Candidate must also possess current, assigned equipment certification(s) and valid certification card(s) (i.e. backhoe).

Education and Experience Required: High School/GED 

LVL 1:    Desired Industry Years Experience:  2+

LVL2:     Desired Industry Years Experience: 5+

LVL 3:    Desired Industry Experience: 6+

LVL 4:    Minimum 8+ years of experience & 4+ years of experience with Company







JOB SCOPE:

Under general supervision, operate motorized, mobile, equipment to include aerial lifts, forklifts, reach lifts excavators, side booms, backhoes, tractors to move and position loads, equipment, material, and/or soil. Assists crew leader, crane operator and/or welders to accomplish daily tasks.  This position consists of a variety of manual labor functions and duties.




Equipment Operator 1 – is an entry level role in the oil and gas industry, building upon foundational skills to include tasks such as mixing bins, road repair, road crossings and knowledge of basic oil and gas industry hazards and associated mitigations. This position serves as the foundation for advancing to higher roles by building essential skills and knowledge. This position offers a structured pathway for career advancement with increasing responsibilities and opportunities for skill development in the oil and gas sector.




Equipment Operator 2 – is an intermediate role in the oil and gas industry, building upon foundational skills to include tasks such as confined space training, excavation/trenching competent person, ability to know and slope sides and access/egress for advanced digs per Cal OSHA regulations, 811 dig permit familiarity and knowledge of basic oil and gas industry work as well as the site and task specific hazards and associated mitigations. This position serves as the foundation for advancing to higher roles by building essential skills and knowledge. This position offers a structured pathway for career advancement with increasing responsibilities and opportunities for skill development in the oil and gas sector.




Equipment Operator 3 – The Equipment Operator 3 is an intermediate role in the oil and gas industry, building upon foundational skills to include tasks such as confined space attendant, LOTO verification, critical lifts, first line breaks, atmospheric conditions knowledge/awareness and knowledge of basic oil and gas industry hazards and associated mitigations. This position serves as the foundation for advancing to higher roles by building essential skills and knowledge. This position offers a structured pathway for career advancement with increasing responsibilities and opportunities for skill development in the oil and gas sector.




Equipment Operator 4 – The Equipment Operator 1 is an intermediate role in the oil and gas industry, building upon foundational skills to include tasks such as mentoring and advance surveying skills including line location as well as knowledge of basic oil and gas industry hazards and associated mitigations. This position serves as the foundation for advancing to higher roles by building essential skills and knowledge. This position offers a structured pathway for career advancement with increasing responsibilities and opportunities for skill development in the oil and gas sector.




DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Possess and maintain appropriate license(s) and certification(s) to operate the equipment being used 
  • Operate heavy equipment in a knowledgeable, safe, and efficient manner
  • Prepare pre-trip vehicle inspection and complete prior to leaving the yard including checking all fluids, tires, lights and all signals as listed on pre-trip
  • Ensure compliance of equipment (vehicle registration, fire extinguisher, etc.)
  • Fill out or gather appropriate job permits and have the appropriate information and signatures for the specific job
  • Develop and/or participate in developing JSA’s on job sites when working on location with crews
  • Help to identify hazards on jobsites
  • Participate in safe work, behavioral safety audits, and near hits
  • Maintain constant awareness of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres
  • Test job sites for immediate respiratory dangers such as H2S or oxygen deficient atmospheres and have knowledge how to read a monitor
  • Learn proper use and maintenance of various tools e.g. basic hand tools, lifting, rigging and binding equipment, shovels, slings etc.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Crew Lead or Foreman
  • Dig ditches and stand fire watch
  • Buff and grind as needed by the assigned welder
  • Assist in cleaning worksites during and after the workday is over
  • Load and unload material
  • Dig and back-fill various types of ditches and trenches
  • Shoot elevations with eye level
  • Follow all Company and customer policies and procedures





 
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge and experience level to perform all job duties
  • Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner; both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Know how to use gas monitors and load charts
  • Basic knowledge of mechanics and electronics
  • Multi-tasking skills to accomplish various duties
  • Maintain assigned equipment operator certification(s) 
  • Hold and maintain a current Oilfield Hazard Awareness “Passport Card”
  • The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations.




Working Conditions: The conditions vary from site to site however, the majority of the work is construction-based working in the fields. The walking surfaces vary depending on the terrain from flat to extreme slopes, to hillsides and mountainsides. Walking on various terrains and in various soil conditions from hard dirt or rocky surfaces to, wet and slippery conditions. Most of the work will be subjected to the ambient weather and outdoor conditions. 




Machines, Tools, Equipment, & Work Aids: Employee will be working with various hand tools that are used in the oil and gas energy sector including buffers, grinders, pipe and hand wrenches, hammers, gas monitors, etc. Company will issue required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the worksite and tasks, with the exception of steel-toed work boots.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs., unassisted. Depending on the phase of the job, all personnel are required to work in conditions where physical demands can consist of: placing one’s body in various positions to inspect and to accomplish certain tasks,
  • sitting, standing, and squatting, raising and lowering objects from one level to another, carrying objects - usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder, grasping objects with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold/and or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.,), pulling i.e. exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking), 
  • pushing i.e. exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force (includes slapping, striking, kicking and treadle actions), bending at the waist, stooping, working in a supine position, twisting (seated or standing),
  • walking or standing for long periods of time. Some of these physical requirements will range from seldom, frequent to constant depending on the task at hand.
